Icon13 Paint Doesn't Match New Car! What to do?

without flash

with flash

The fender is black and the bumper cover is grey
Ford offered to fix the problem. I wanted to use my own body shop but since they insisted I went with their shop. I told them that I'll keep bringing it back until they get it right.

Two weeks ago I gave them the car to address the issue.

Round one got ****ed up. On the lowest part of the bumper, underneath the lower grill, passenger side, there's a flat black spot of about 4 inches that gets rough as you run your finger on it. It's very obvious if you look closely. I didn't get a chance to get a pic because of work and I took it back immedietly. I just dropped it off the shop again last week.

Now after trying to repaint it a second time, let me show you their wonderful work...

You can see the sanding marks along the flash...

Big white scratch must of happened when installing the grill...

The abmnorally shaped oval drop, that's paint with a very rough surface when you run your finger on it! Sand marks running horizontal...

Another diffirent angle with more sandmarks running horizontal

Look closely to the right of the glare and you can see the bits of sand and dust that got under the paint...

I don't want them to touch my car anymore. I want MY body shop to do the work and I want Ford to pay for it. I think I've been more than fair by giving them a 2nd chance.

How would you handle this issue? Thanks.
Ford, where quality is job # none.
HEY FORD... Get my **** right!!!

After all of this, you should get someone at corporate on the phone and INSIST on using your own body shop. That is just unacceptable work, how can they let that leave their paint shop? Jeez.

I feel your pain!! Nothing worse that having someone f-up your pride and joy. A few months after I bought my car I met a gravel truck and got pelted with rocks. Then the nightmare started. I have had the bumper and hood painted twice. There still not right. I am close to sanding them both down and re-painting myself. Up until 7 years ago I did body repair on the side out of my home shop. I am a perfectionist so it was a never ending fight trying to get perfect work out of a home made spray booth. I do however think I could get much better results doing the work myself than the sub par jobs I have paid for. When I spend money for something I expect it to be better than I could do myself. I am having some warranty / dealership trouble on my 08 Silverado and am close to calling GM direct. Ford surely has a number that you could do the same. I would paint it and send the dealership the bill. Worst case you will be out some $$ but at least it will be right.

That's pretty rough for a dealership paint shop. I've painted stuff outdoors in a windstorm that has turned out better than that. Also, if I am not mistaken, it is just basic black so there should not be any trouble matching the paint on that car.

There are standard and 4 alternate shades of that black in the Sherwin Williams line. Mine is actually alternate two if memory serves me right. The guy that painted my stuff thought the same thing, black is black should match perfect. And I can tell you what he painted for me does not match. I painted a GT500 rear spoiler and it matches dead on. You have to be pretty picky (like myself) to notice the slight difference in shades of the stuff I had pained. Most people could not see it if pointed out.

That's why there are color swatches and sun guns. Not to mention most shops painting in any volume will have a mixit program that should tell them all of the paint codes + variants. This really is inexcusable for a dealership body shop. This is the stuff I would expect from someone spraying in their garage with little knowledge.
