I said the same thing, until I broke the 6 speed three times. The repairs put me WELL over the cost of just doing an auto from the beginning.
It's a hard concept to open yourself up to. I used to be one hard headed mofo. Autos are racecars. Autos are boring. Street cars should be sticks. I used to think all that stuff.
Now that the auto is in there, boy was I wrong... and stupid. The manual valve body means I shift the trans... just like I did with the T56, except I don't have to use my left foot. It made the car more reliable, faster, and yes... WAY more fun.
If it were me, I'd put an auto in, but if you have a goal and want to go for 9's, by all means, do it! And good luck!
