Default Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors (TPMS)

I 've got a 2007 Expedition and want to put 20" wheels and tires on it. It has TPMS on the factory wheels/tires which I want to keep for long trips and going up north to snow. While shopping on tire-rack . com, they say you have to buy "sensors" and "straps" for a the tune of $459 and the local Ford dealer says they've got the sensors for $51 each. I asked about the 'straps' and they have no clue what I'm talking about. Can anyone tell me what the straps are and why Ford is so much cheaper? I don't want any surprises when I make the change.

I called my local Ford dealer yesterday about this issue. I bought a set of 17" polished rims from Ford and I wanted the sensors removed from my current rim and installed on my new ones. The service tech told me it would cost $150 in labor and they would reuse the sensors. It did take me a while to find a service tech that knew anything about the TPMS. Good luck!

Base part number 1A193 is for the strap from Ford 20 inch. You can re-use the old sensor, the Dealer is giving you the cost of the strap assembly only, the other place is giving the price for everything. If you are careful you can re-use the old sensor and just order the 20 inch straps from Ford.

Discount tire is the cheapest place to get replacement bands and cradles, ( bands up to 24 inch) All 4wheels for around $50.00. Not bad. I put all 4 sensors in a sealed pvc tube with a valve stem on one end. Set pressure at 32psi ,put it in the trunk and everything works fine.32psi is for 07 mustang with 18s.

Yes it works. I bought the PVC parts at Home Depot. Valve stem form a local parts store. If you want to see one go to grabberorange.net, look under TPMS. One Grabber Orange brother made his with a big mouth pepsi bottle with a valve stem and it also works. The PVC looks better. Good Luck
