Rules - Modular Fords

  • Rules

by Published on 01-19-2012 02:28 PM  Number of Views: 119800 was established in 2002 to create a place for late model Ford enthusiasts to interact in laid back, family-orientated environment. In order to foster this friendly interaction and create an environment where ALL enthusiasts feel comfortable posting and hanging out, we have created a set of rules and guidelines which all members are required to follow. These rules are general in nature, as it is impossible to spell out every possible offense that may result in a thread being locked, deleted, or edited. Anytime a rule is broken, a moderator may officially notify the member of the transgression. You may receive a “warning” for whatever rule was broken. The Staff is not required to send you a warning or notice of your offense before taking appropriate action. Any warnings issued will come to you as a PM (Private Message) or an e-mail. It will notify you of the moderator that issued the warning/ban, the date, time, and the post content that broke the rule. Any repeat offense to the same “Warning” may get board access restrictions (bans) placed on the offending Member’s ID. The rules are as follows:

    1. Expletives

Expletives (swear words) are not allowed, and for good reason. Many people are deeply offended by vulgar language. If you feel you must swear to get your point across, please censor your language appropriately so as to not be overly offensive. (e.g., “S***!”) Replacing one or two letters in an expletive by using ASCII characters (! for I, etc) is not an acceptable solution.

    2. Spamming

Spamming or business advertisements by businesses that do not sponsor are not allowed. Threads or PMs determined to be “spam” will be deleted or forwarded to the administration, this type of posting could possibly result with privileges to our board restricted or denied without notice. Lottery schemes being advertised on this board are considered spam. Excessive advertisement of other “for profit” forums is also considered spam, and will be dealt with accordingly. If you are interested in sponsoring, please send inquiries to [email protected] Soliciting for members of this site to go and join another site is also considered a form of spam and will result in immediate removal from ModularFords. Mentioning another site for reference or as an information source is acceptable but direct solicitation aimed at our members to bolster some other site’s membership is inappropriate and subject to moderator disciplinary action. That includes but is not limited to displaying links in signatures.

    3. Flames or Derogatory Insults

Flames or derogatory insults are strictly against the rules. If you disagree with another member’s point of view, do so in a mature and civil manner. If someone posts to discuss their personal problems or seek help from other forum members, please do not respond unless you have something positive or helpful to add. If you find yourself being flamed or insulted by another member, please do not dignify that person with a response. Notify a moderator and let us handle it. If you feel you must respond to a flame or insult directly, please do NOT do so on the board. Use private messages or e-mail.

Suggestion: If you are particularly irritated by another member’s posting habits and are constantly fighting the urge to flame them, you can click on that person’s profile, and select “Add to ignore list.” This will make that person’s posts invisible to you.

    4. Threats, Racism, or Sexism

Threads or replies promoting or expressing intolerant views towards minorities (race, religion, sexual preference, etc.) will not be tolerated.

    5. Porn

Porn is not welcome here. Pictures showing nudity may be allowed in our off-topic section if an appropriate “Not Work Friendly” warning is posted in the subject line, and the picture is at worst, “PG-13.” “R-Rated” and “X-rated” pictures, sites, or links are and will remain strictly against the rules. This includes partially nude or obscene content of any kind including avatars. Basically, if you wouldn’t show your elderly grandmother or young child the photo or adult material, it has no place on our website.

The Staff will decide if something is inappropriate and needs to be removed. In most cases, you will receive a notice via PM if your thread, signature, picture, or avatar is removed however; the Staff is not required to notify you.

    6. Legal Related Posts & Issues:

ModularFords DOES NOT endorse any legal advice given anyplace within the forum community. We highly recommend that members and guests get the advice of an accredited legal expert whenever possible and never rely on just one source.

ModularFords and its Owners are not responsible for any content or views that are expressed and posted by our members. Post and read at your own risk.

    7. “Directing” Posts or Threads:

Making a post directing other people to another post on the ModularFords site, unless requested, and to check their PM box is not permitted. An example of this would be to create a new threads asking if everyone has voted on the poll you posted, or if they have viewed the other thread. Posts such as these will be deleted and the member will be warned. Continuing abuse of this policy will result in you losing your posting privileges.

    8. Illegal Activities:

Threads/replies encouraging illegal/unethical action (like “The best way to kill the neighbor’s dog”) will not be allowed. Posts such as these will be deleted and may lead to you losing your posting privileges. This also includes threads about using and/or obtaining illegal copies of copyrighted material such as software, music, videos, and sharing registration and license keys of copyrighted material.

    9. Drugs:

Conversations relating to manufacturing and “hyping” (promoting or sensationalizing) of drugs are not welcome in ModularFords and will be promptly removed.

    10. “Free” & “Junk” Posting:

“Free” or “Junk” posts are (repeated) posts that do not add to the overall positive content in threads, or are postings solely for the purpose of boosting your post count. A good example of this can be found in threads asking for information on a topic for which you have no answer and does not inquire directly (by name) of you to answer. If you were to reply to this thread by saying, “Nope, I have no information” (ETC), this is a junk post. There is no reason to comment because your silence is as good as saying you do not have any information to contribute. If they are asking you personally (by name) though, please do feel free to reply regardless of whether you have the answer or not.

Many people judge member’s credibility based on post count, so we ask that you obtain your post count legitimately. Furthermore, free/junk posts add up over time and waste server space and ISP bandwidth unnecessarily. Threads announcing your post count are considered free posting. Free/Junk post repeat abusers may have their post count severely reduced by ModularFords administration.

    11. “Bumping” Threads:

“Bumping” a thread is when you make a post for the purpose of making the thread appear on the “View New Posts” option, or light up as forums with new posts do. While there are some circumstances when doing this is reasonable, it should be kept to rare use. If a moderator or admin feels there is no reason for this, there is a good chance your post will be deleted and you may be warned. Repeated abusers may have their posting privileges suspended.

    12. Advertising & Promoting:

ModularFords has a NO advertising policy with the exception of our community sponsors. This includes discussion forums, message boards, chat sites, commercial businesses & services, personal websites, etc. (You may however post a direct link to an outside site given that the information is RELEVANT to a question someone else has requested, or you believe it will be helpful to others.) Sneaky advertising will not be tolerated. If you have a business or service that you think will benefit the members of ModularFords, please contact “Eric Brooks” via the PM system or email Eric directly – [email protected]

If you violate this policy you will be warned once and the posts will be deleted. Further abuse of this policy will most likely lead to you being permanently banned from the community.

    13. Signatures:

Signatures are currently allowed at ModularFords but are a privilege that may be revoked if abused. Signatures MAY NOT contain links or advertisements, nor can they contain images of any type of sexual or risqué content (completely up to Admin discretion). Signatures also MAY NOT have links imbedded which cause commercial popup windows to pop up in threads.

You may have a maximum of (1) graphical image that is no higher than 100 pixels x 400 pixels in width and optimized for the web. Anything that causes the forum load time to become substantially lower for dial-up members will be removed. Please keep your font small, and include no more than 400 characters.

Only our Authorized Supporting Vendors have the privilege to display their website address and other business related information in their signatures. Non-Vendors that choose to display their company web addresses and other pertinent information about their business as a means to drum up free business on our site will be asked to remove the information from their signatures, if they choose not to, a Staff member may remove it at anytime without further notice.

    14. Private Messaging (PM) System:

ALL of the general rules listed in this forum apply to the Private Messaging system, especially soliciting, advertising and sexually related PM’s. Violating any of these rules in the PM system will result in immediate removal from the community.

    15. Moving of Posts:

ModularFords Moderators and Administrators will move threads & replies to the most appropriate forum often without notice to the member who started a thread. Please spend a little extra time making sure where you start a thread is the best place for it, and don’t rely on moderators to do this for you. Members found to blatantly post threads “wherever” may lose their posting privileges.

If you are dealing with a TECHNICAL topic and it could appropriately fit in more than one forum, you may post it in multiple forums. Cross posting should be held to a maximum of 2 forums.

Items for sale are NOT permitted in the technical forum. If an item is posted for sale in the technical forums, an infraction will be given. Please use our classified forums to buy and sell.

    16. Deleting Posts and Closing Threads:

ModularFords Administration has the right to close or remove any post or thread we deem inappropriate. The decision to Close or Delete a Post/Thread is solely ours. We have a strict policy of keeping the posts in this community constructive. Posts that create an unnecessary amount of conflict and serve no further purpose may be closed at the moderator’s discretion. Further, it is the policy of this community NOT to delete posts unless the information in a post may put someone in jeopardy. It is the members responsibility to think of the potential consequences of the post they are about to make prior to doing so. Removing a post will often destroy readability of the thread by making it unreadable. Deleting the first post in a thread will cause the deletion of the entire thread. Members do not appreciate spending their time responding to posts only to have the post they make disappear, so we make it a point not to delete posts just because people change their mind after making a post.

    17. Administration Dispute Resolution:

If you are having a problem on ModularFords that you feel you cannot solve by any other means available to you, we invite you to contact one of the ModularFords administrators via PM or email. Administrators have the final say with everything in this community.

    18. Negative Comments in Signatures

Negative comments about Supporting Vendors in signatures is not permitted and will be promptly removed by a moderator without notice. If you have dealt with a Supporting Vendor directly and have had a bad experience, we encourage you to tactfully post about your experience. Please refer to our “Supporting Vendor Bashing” section in the rules below.

    19. Poop / Violence / Sex Threads

“Poop” threads or similarly immature and offensive topics (graphic sex, specific sex act, violence, snuff films or violent sexual acts) will not be allowed. Members who start these types of threads will be removed from the site immediately.

    20. Trolling

“Trolling” or makings posts with the sole intention of creating problems on the forums are obviously against the forum guidelines. This includes registering an alternate ID for the sole purpose of creating problems on the forums. “Troll ID’s” will be locked immediately and permanently, and can be locked without notification to the offender.

    21. Bashing

Threads/replies attacking and its policies will not be allowed. If you have a problem or concern with our policies, please contact a member of the Staff to discuss. We are always open for suggestions and feedback.

    22. Posting Harmful URL’s

We will promptly ban any Member of the site that posts malicious or harmful URL links that cause:

    • Other Member’s PCs to become locked or have to be rebooted in order for the PC to regain functionality (Like the link to the “You’re an idiot” page that ends up spawning countless little browser windows dancing all over your screen)

    • “screaming”, (cannot be viewed safely for content or sound at work)

    • Links that add another forum member to your ignore list.

    23. Supporting Vendor Bashing

Our Supporting Vendors deserve respect and restraint. Attacking a sponsor on the board is strictly prohibited. If you have a complaint with a Supporting Vendor, you may send the information directly to an Administrator and it will be passed directly to the Supporting Vendor for action or resolution. If you do post on the board about a specific problem involving a Supporting Vendor, please remain calm and state the facts. Do not let emotion cloud the issue at hand. When your thread is read by a moderator, the moderator will do the following:

    A) Lock the thread and place a copy of the thread in the Moderator Forum OR the Sponsor Forum. These forums are not visible to the members but I assure you they do exist.

    B) Reply to the locked thread that (A) has taken place.

    C) The moderator or Administrator will update the locked thread with the response from the Supporting Vendor OR the Supporting Vendor will contact you directly.

We really hope situations can be resolved off-line but we will not prohibit a statement of fact BUT we will control the thread so as to stop the “Hate” or “Me too” replies these threads often generate.

Many Customer / Vendor issues are resolved with a little communication. Send all pertinent information to [email protected] if you need help solving a dispute with a Supporting Vendor

    24. Attacking Forum Moderators

Posting a thread or reply to question or criticize moderator or administrator actions is not appropriate in a public forum. Please utilize the board’s Private Message function, or e-mail, if you wish to discuss these issues. As long as you bring up your concerns maturely and civilly to the moderator or administrator in question, we will do our best to address your concerns fairly and promptly.

Here are the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” of addressing your concerns to moderators or administrators:

“Do” be civil and polite. Bring up your concerns in a mature and respectful manner. If you are contacting us because you violated forum guidelines, be adult enough to admit your mistake. If your ID has been locked for some reason, talking politely to us about it in private, via e-mail or private message, can get your ID reinstated in many cases.

“Do not” be derogatory or insulting towards us. You will not get what you want by name calling or bashing us.

All we ask is that you treat us the way you would want us to treat you. If you treat us with respect, we will do the same for you.

    25. Classified Policies

#1 – You must own what you are selling. Do not post ads for friends.

#2 – You must list a price. “OBO” is acceptable provided you sell the item to someone that offers the listed price. Correct selling etiquette would be reserving the product to the first person that posts in the thread and offers the minimum posted price. A PM is not an offer for an item as it negates the purpose of the public thread. Any thread NOT listing a price will be deleted by the moderators. VEHICLES FOR SALE MUST HAVE MILEAGE DETAILS LISTED.

#3 – There is absolutely no bidding allowed.Going offline and using e-mail to conduct bidding is unacceptable. Prices must be listed. No “best offer” posts without a minimum price.

#4 – No commercial sales! Supporting Vendors pay to advertise here. If you wish to sell retail items on, you must become a Supporting Vendor!

#5 – Links to eBay auctions are OK in this forum provided the following guidelines are followed:

    • The thread heading or subject line must clearly state it concerns an eBay auction. Subject line should look something like this: 2003 SVT Cobra On E-bay or Set of 2000 Cobra R wheels on E-bay. Please list the details from the auction, not just the link.

    • Post only your own auction links. No listing for a friend or “Look what I saw on E-bay” type posts.

    • Do your bidding on eBay, not here. If a member has an item on eBay but has a FIRM price for members that he will take before the auction ends that would be okay to post in the threads body.

#6 – Firearms or related items shall not be offered on this site.

In order to protect this site from Federal problems we cannot allow the selling, trading, or buying of any gun or weapon related items.

There are federal laws on the shipping of firearms to other states and certain licenses are required. Rather than trying to verify the presence of these licenses, we have stopped all ads for this type of item.

That’s about it. Just use your common sense and don’t abuse the board by filling it up with E-bay auctions. Remember, the Classified forum was created to hook-up other members to sell and find parts with-in our community.

    27. site Communications

Using the e-mail link or the PM process to send threats of violence, racial attacks, or sexually harassing messages is prohibited.

Anyone that feels they are a victim of harassment or other attacks should immediately contact a moderator or a site administrator for assistance. DO NOT DELETE THE MESSAGE(S) Please keep the offending message(s) on hand so that you can forward them to the Administrator, as evidence, for action against the perpetrator.

    General Dos and Don’ts

If you violate forum guidelines, in most cases, you can expect the following action from the moderators/administrators:

    1. First offense – warning via private message, e-mail, and/or moderator reply in the offending thread.

    2. Second offense – you will receive an infraction, which permanently stays on your account.

    3. Subsequent offense – possible permanent banning from ModularFords.

Please realize that the nature of the offense will determine the action to be taken. If the violation is extreme enough, or has been repeated enough times in the past, a member can have his/her account banned without a warning.

Threads or replies that do not comply with our guidelines may be locked, edited, or deleted, depending on the nature of the offense. We will make every effort to state why such action was taken via private message, e-mail, and/or moderator reply in the offending thread. For this reason, we ask that you check your private messages often. You can find out whether or not you have received any private messages by logging into your user CP. You can set your options so that the board notifies you via email when you have received a private message, if you so desire.

The above rules and guidelines are necessary to make’s forums comfortable and enjoyable for automotive enthusiasts. If you feel you cannot comply with the rules above, please refrain from using’s forums.

    Thank you,

    Eric Brooks
