For the last couple months we had a project car in our shop that belonged to NMRA/NMCA racer Don Belles. Some of you may know Don or his son from these events. Well Don came to us last year with this car after putting it together running the 4.6 3V engine and Kenne Bell Supercharger. We helped him work out all the bugs and eventually get the car running in the low 9's. This wasn't fast enough for Don, he wants to be the quickest competitor in the feild so we planned a Super Cobra Jet Engine build and swap for him. This took alot of preperation and planning, we ran into a few delays and changes that were made along the way which resulted in Don missing the first two events. Don was alway patient and worked with us to get the car to its current state of perfection! He plans to race this weekend at the NMRA event at MIR. He is doing some testing today along with another customer of ours, Mike Dellisanti at ATCO. Look for both of these cars at MIR in fact.

Don's Shelby is equipped with a fully built 5.4 Ford GT Aluminum block running a custom Wet sump conversion designed by JDM. Including a custom 7 qt capacity oil pan with ford GT windage tray in combination. The Shortblock has our Custom spec NHRA approved Manley Rods and Mahle pistons same as used in our Cobra Jet/Super Cobra Jet engine program. The engine is rated to support over 1500 HP. We installed a set of GT500 cylinder heads and added a set of our custom spec Comp NHRA approved Super Cobra Jet camshafts with springs and retainers package as well. The motor was timed and assembled with our upgraded cam bolts and studs, cam gears, tensioners, and custom billet guides same as we use in our Cobra Jet program as well. We designed custom breather tubes for the Ford GT valve covers and topped them off with our Billet "Powered by JDM Engineering" coil covers for a little bling factor!

The engine is topped off with a GT500 intake manifold, '13 GT500 upgraded intercooler core, and 4.0L Whipple Super Cobra Jet Supercharger. This blower is capable of making 30+ psi but is being limited to a 4.00" upper and Innovators West 10% lower combination to keep the car with in the 8.50 class index limit. This combination makes about 23-24 psi boost but is safe on VP Racing Fuels C16 making 955 RWHP and almost 800 TQ. With a 3.500" upper pulley we should make about 28 psi boost and the car will yeild approximately 150 more HP at the tires and have 7 Second ET ability!

We completed the installation here in shop custom fitting everything from the cars complete fuel system, accessory drive, fire supression system, and entire wiring harness for the engine and body! The car was really a fruit of labor spending about 3 full months in one bay. We even did a complete underbody paint job to help clean up the appearance after the chassis work, welding, cutting, and fitment were finished.

The car truley is a work of art and something to be seen in person, if you can ever make it to an NMRA or NMCA event I suggest finding where Don and his son are pitting and check out their cars. That's right Don's son is next in line for a similar build using the new 5.0 Coyote Super Cobra Jet engine package!

Here is a video compelation we put together for the car and some photos we took while it was in shop.
