Every point in CR is equivalent to about 1.54 psi boost, or every psi = .65 CR, so 9.85-8.5 = 1.35 CR drop, and 1.35/.65 = 2.08 psi more you could run.

    Hope this helps!

Part of the problem is we had to zip the file up because modularfords.com would not let us attach an *.xls file before. Try it now that we were able to upload an *.xls file as an attachment.

And if anyone can't open excel for whatever reason, here it is in a hand quick and dirty web page...or for anyone that might want to embed it into their pages.

    Just remove the .txt extension.

I think the formula used for this calculator was, for example:

    1st octane = 91
    2nd octane = 110
    gallons of 1st octane = 9
    gallons of 2nd octane = 4

    If you take 91 x 9 you get 819,
    then multiply 110 x 4 and get 440
add the two sums together and get 1259
then divide by total gallons...in this case 13 and you get the mixed octane rating of 96.84615

I tried a few different octane numbers and my way of calculating and it came up the same everytime.

hope that helps people out that can't D/L the file.

Here is a related question to octane. There is a Fastlane gas station which sells "Trick" 100 octane at the pump near me ($7.49 /galon .... grumble grumble.....). I have filled up there several times, and I suspect the gas may be sour, because frankly my car seems to run better (smmother more power) on 91 octane. Is there an easy way to verify whether or not the gas is sour?

Default How does increasing octane hurt

How does mixing fuels to increase octane hurt the engine. Just Curious.

The mix can be off, on you are counting on it to right. The mixed fuel can also separate after sitting throwing off the ratios. its best to run a factory blend fuel for the octane you need or are tuned for.
