    The setting of the throttle blade seams to be spot on. 150 rpm diff.
    Ford have usually tuned that the rpm is hanging a bit before coming back to idle speed.
    Still it would be good to make sure there is no vacuum leaks.
    Normally for Lincoln MKVIII engines the vacuum is 20 in/hg at idle.

    I have never used the restrictor that you linked to.
    Haven't seen any reason for it.

    The lifters are quite hard to compress that's why I suggest a wise.
    I beleave that you didn't even been able to compress the lifter with a plier.

    Hi Tbird, thanks for your reply.

    Think my first step will be to check for leaks, hopefully all good as its been completely rebuild with all new gaskets. Not sure if i am going to get the restrictor plates.....

    I bought the special 4V lifter removal tool so am going to get them out again to check, this engine noise is in my mind all day and want to get it sorted before i really start to drive it. The noise was loudest at cylinder 4 so gonna start there.

    I remember some about the idle speed control in the Ford tunes.
    Older (Mustang -93) have some parameters for setting how fast coming back to idle speed when letting of the throttle.
    One of them is decay rate.
    In other words the tune is done so the engine doesn't come back to idle speed set point directly.
