Thanks for saving this extremly well written and informative article! Much thanks to Dave for putting this article together as well as all others involved!
I just noticed this excellent thread. Because we've done quite a few of these type of conversions for 05' and up Mustangs (with either a stick or an automatic) I thought you might be interested in seeing our Tech Report and a few installation photos: http://www.fbperformance.com/page.asp?get=40&t=NoP
We decided to publish the 5R55S automatic version of this because its the more involved conversion that requires changing and reprograming the OEM computer.
Since you have the manual PCM, you won't need to do much, if anything.
The car I worked on had a stand alone TCM from PCS ( I think that is right ). It had software that you used to setup the shift / lock schedule. It worked great.
I am getting ready to do this to my cobra, would you guys suggest a manual or fully auto valve body>? are there any pros/cons to it at all either way? i like the idea of still shifting, but i dont like the idea of being able to accidentally shift into overdrive and destroy the tranny.
anyone know why my overdrive switch isnt working? I want to put a switch there because i want to put a B&M shifter in there but if i cant turn overdrive off my tranny will blow up under high boost launches. Anyone if they have diagrams for it that would be awesome
I'm a little confused regarding the 2003/2004 cobra computer. I understand that the terminators didn't come with an auto trans, but is there a way to wire it up anyway? I have a FULL 4r70w setup (harness, sensors, everything) and I would like to use it with my 04 cobra motor, and 04 cobra computer. I don't want to lose the IAT1 and the MAP sensor, etc. Great article btw.
Actually you can use a trans controller and keep the cobra EEC. I plan to use the Baumannator with their wiring harness for the 4R70W i have built for my setup. There are other choices of controllers like Compushift and Powertrain control systems.
I've not used a Baumannator before, but I have used this - http://www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com/ and had great results with it. Very easy to setup, has a wizard for setting everything up, and then you can make adjustments after the fact, but I found the wizard did a damn good job.
shhakg...exactly! Either use a controller for fully automatic shifting ( baumannator or compu shift) or a manual valve body that you shift yourself with the 03/04 Cobra EEC.
will i need a mach 1 computer if i had a new computer installed( it was a mach 1 reflashed and put in my cobra) but now with a cobra tune. my other computer blew, and i have this as a replacement.
Hey, I was going over the article again. I got a deep TCI pan, and it didn't come with a filter. I went on their site and couldn't find one. Anyone have any part numbers or whatever as to where I can get one. Thanks
I got mine from the local transmission shop who did the rebuild.
