I have my car at the dealership so they can look into a loud smacking noise coming from the clutch/transmission area when the car is in neutral with the clutch engaged. One thing that looked interesting to me was the amount of slop or play between the clutch and transmission input shaft. There is a lot of movement if you pull out on the bottom of the clutch while pushing in on the top (same goes for switching directions). Also there is a lot of movement (slop) if you manually turn the clutch while it is pushed onto the input shaft.

So, my question is, how tight should the clutch and input shaft connection be at the splines?

If it would help, I might be able to run up to the dealership and record what I am talking about if I'm not making any sense...

Thanks.

hey 06trgt, your description is good, no need to
run up to the dealership.

it's a good question, but i don't know the answer. i
wouldn't think that there should be very much
play there.
