I have gotten tired of dropping my hood from up above to have it close properly. It really has bugged me! Shoot...my Ram Air 98 Trans Am hood would just closer nice as can be....lay the hood down and press down....presto...latched.

On the 03 Cobra...I tried adjusting the front side bumpers...moving the latch(that barely moves) Still had to bang the hood down for it to close....but today...I finally figured it out...

There are 2 Rubber bumpers on the hood itself. On the front part. Just take those off carefully....and you might have to adjust your front side bumpers...screw them in alittle.....

So now..all I have to do is lay the hood down and push down...latched...easy as that....I know those rubber bumpers on the hood are there to maybe stop a rattle or something...but I have no rattles and the hood is nice and tight when closed..lines up real nice too.

Much better than having to slam that damn hood all the time.

I like it now! Like a hood should close.

Thanks Harry! I will try that in the morning. I always thought it was ridiculous to have to slam the hood.

I know..same here...just like "SEAN" said :D For an almost 40k car ,you would think the hood would close nice an easy.

Hope it works for you too,

1 BAD COBRA said:
hey Harry how does the 98 Trans Am compare to the Cobra just wondering??
To be honest...
First the performance factor...the 03 Cobra is way far ahead in that area. The Ram Air Trans Am cant touch it...even mod for mod....there is nothing out that that can keep up with the 03 Cobra

The seats are better in the Trans Am...much better...especially for a bigger driver/passenger. The hump in the passenger floor on the T/A is not missed though.

When it comes to looks....I think that the Ram Air Trans Am wins in the Area too. The 03 Cobra is still a real sweet looking car...but when you are looking in your rear view mirror and you see a Ram Air LS1 Trans Am coming up behind you...those looks alone can kill

I like the higher seating position in the mustang than the Trans Am....you can see alot more in a Cobra than you can in a Trans Am.

And the size factor now too...the T/A is way way toooo wide to for me to get comfy when throwing the car around corners and all...the T/A handles just as good as the Cobra...just feels heavier and bulkier than the 03 Cobra.

Man....when the cars are parked side by side...that T/A is just plain bad to the bone looking.

i love the T/A,s i was kicking around selling mine and trying to find a LS1 T/A for around 18k and then pull the engine put in good rods pistons and the stage 3 ported heads and a nice camshaft but my 03 only has 400 miles on it and its identical to yours Harry i know the market is soft right now and i would take it on the chin i would be lucky to get 30k for it but im serious on the T/A!!

Pick of the 98 Ram Air and 03 Cobra

Here is a cool pic of them both together.....I still would never sell the 03 Cobra for a LS1 Trans Am.......Just too easy to mod these Cobra's to low 11's high 10's compared to what you have to do to the LS1 to get there. I know...I had to put a pretty aggressive cam in ..all the bolt ons and still Nitrous to get into the high 11's with the T/A. It was alot of work that I do not miss doing one bit.
But like I said..you cant beat the Ram Air looks!

do you still have the T/A and if i stroked the LS1 upped the compression and put on a set of stage 3 heads and a nice shaft would it be competitive with the Cobra and with those 2 side by side im wondering now why i bought the 03 !!:(

No I do not have the T/A any longer...I sold it about 1 month after I got the Cobra. It was a nice car...but I am telling you. Mod for Mod...you cant beat a Cobra. Just take 100 bucks and go mod an LS1...take that same 100 bucks and mod a cobra(Upper Pulley)...low 12's easy already in a Cobra....maybe low 13's with the LS1.

I think what you need to do ..if you can...I know money might be an issue if you are thinking about going with a used Ram Air T/A. But...get atleast a 3.00 upper pulley(74 inch belt)..get a Diablosport chip(tuned by whoever you feel is capable), a 9 inch powerstack air filter intake kit and I promise you...you will love that Cobra to death!

i havent had a LS1 T/A before but i have driven several of them i do the paint warranty work on the new T/A,s but i have never had a chance to open one up because there not mine i respect the dealers cars but they seem to drive well but since you have had both u say that the Cobra is a lot more fun to drive i have only drivin mine about 4 or 5 times only has 400 miles on it bone stock just trying to get used to the standard shift coming from previous automatic cars i just wanted the latest and greatest when i bought this car but in hindsight i thought i should of bought a T/A and threw 6 grand at it but i think the Cobras will get a lot of your money back when u go to sell!!!

It will cost you the same in the end!! Why do you think I'm selling my SS to buy an '03?! :) You can't just figure money for power mods with the LS1. You will have to buy a 12bolt or 9in rear end, which is gonna run you a couple of thousand when all is said an done. A forged longblock (346-360) with nice heads will run you $6-$9k, depending on who you get it from. If you plan to go with bigger cubes, the numbers just continue to go up. The T-56 in the Camaro/TA doesn't seem quite as strong, either......... so you might have to go with the iron shift forks. And all of this will probably only gonna get you into the 11's. So if you're looking low 11's or quicker, plan $7k for a good turbo setup, a little less for a blower, or a lot less for Nitrous........ but nitrous requires cash every time your refill it.
Of course, you might have to go with a stick axle in the Cobra if you're gonna live at the strip. I plan on aiming for low 11's/high 10's....... so I'm gonna do what it takes to stick with the IRS. The stick axle in the Camaro can be made to handle great, but when it's built for the strip it's not gonna match the IRS.
Just some things to think about..........
And I just love the understated look of the Cobra. Reminds me of my GN.
