Hey guys, I just took my Cobra to Milan dragway tonight and ran it through the quarter for the first time. Car is completely stock(approx 1250 miles). I could not seem to get this thing out of the hole without bogging it or getting tremendous wheel hop. I tried launching the car anywhere from 1200 rpm to 3000rpm. I ran out of time(made 4 passes) before I could do anything else. My 60 ft times were 2.5 to 2.6. Best 1/4 was 13.53 @ 108.7. I did not lower my tire pressure due to limited time. I am looking for any suggestions from you guys that have run your cars. I did not knock off 2 newer ls-1 Z-28's on the way home(they instigated) so that made me feel a little better!! I have some bolt-ons but want to see what I can do with it before I add them. Should I get some drag radials?? I already have 2 extra factory rims, just need to get the tires. I shifted at approx 6200rpm and the car seemed good at this point. Pulled hard after the launch but lost quite a bit from the start. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Were there any other Cobra folks there? Different tracks seem to require different techniques. Your 60ft times indicate either massive lack of traction or massive bogging (but you said that already, right?) . Some folks just drive it away from the line and get pretty good 60ft times.

Have you done any of the basic antibunnyhop stuff? Ford actually made 2 or 3 cars that did not wheelhop (j69gordon's car should be dissected by Ford so they can understand how to make a 2003 Cobra correctly ...). If not, search either this site or the other one mentioned below for 'wheel hop' and grab the nodoze tablets. Changes must be made...

You might want to go to www.svtpeformance.com and search on keyword 'launch' and limit the forums to 'the Terminator', you will get 396 hits on threads which will give you a ton input. If you have insomnia, a side benefit is that it will be cured.
... I have a set of 16 in racing wheels and Mickey T Street ETs coming in this week.

But do the reading, it is part of the 'fun'.

Every track is going to be somewhat different, because of the prep of the track. Having raced at Milan many times in the past, the track is usually pretty good.

Before anything, always lower your tire pressure down to at least 26 psi. You can go lower, but that is just a start. I usually run them at 23 psi. Then when launching start at 2000 rpm and slip the clutch on the launch. If the track is hooking good, increase in multiples of about 200 rpm on the launch, until you get the best launch.

There are many around the country that have had tremendous times on F1's. I have only been able to muster a 1.9 60ft. It just takes practice and a well prepped track. If you get down to a 1.9 60ft, you will see 12's in stock trim.

Just practice, practice practice.

Thanks to all that have replied! I will answer some of the questions you guys have asked. The bog was from a low rpm(1200rpm)leave. The traction control was off. I have not tried any traction mods(Thanks for the threads I will check them out). I happened to be the lone '03 Cobra there that night. If it was not for the weather and the time I did want to experiment with lower tire pressures. The bigger problem I had was the wheel hop. I feel this was the biggest limiting factor to getting the ET. I think Iguerra1 says it best, "practice, practice, practice". I have read about a lot of guys getting 1.9 60fts or better but to appreciate it you have to try it yourself. You definitely gain a lot of respect after that. Thanks again.............

sonic03 - i ran the f1's at around 23lbs of air pressure and came out of the whole at idle. almost like your coming from a stop light, just more agrresive.as soon as the clutch is completely released , stomp on it !! i ran several 1.90's best being 1.95 and if i didnt run a 1.90 almost always 2.0's.. hope this helps, good luck.. :banggears

'R.I.P. Sonic 03' would have given those who had not read the tragic post a hint that something was going on.
