Upgrading slipping clutch. Found my input shaft to have some waving marks on the splines. Don't know if it is normal machine marks or stress cracks before failure... Its been a while since I have seen one up close so hopefully it is OK. Need Opinions! BTW if you run your fingernail down a spline you can feel the slight ridges.

Thanks,

Jon L

Jon,

I've seen tortured input shafts...mostly from Big Daddy's shop (Outrageous Mustangs) and on 9 and 8 second cars.

In all cases, the splines were not straight, in some they actually looked like a candy cane.

Put a straight-edge against those teeth and see if any have been warped. I don't think that those waves in the texture would be caused by stress...they sound like machine work. But I am no authority by any stretch of the imagination.

Please keep us posted!

Layed a straight edge on the splines and there is no twist. It is machining marks thye extend up under the TOB retainer about and inch. Anyway it is back in and running with no problems.
