Enjoy
See the goober under the car in the first one? Thats me. My wife took this while I was cutting out the tranny mounts, this was before I realized there is now a conversion tranny mount for the t-56 (duh). Its Ok though, this car will never have another type of transmission in it anyway.

Its getting there, slowly. I can only work on it during the weekends but its coming along. I started tearing the car down about mid January so I think I have made really good progress considering I have not had much help. My dad pitched in a few times when I was moving the engine around but other than that its all me.
I made this post to inspire all those who are thinking about doing something like this. Yes, it can be done in a driveway if you just take your time and be patient with it.
I should be ready to go around easter so everyone pray for me that it starts up and runs OK. The wiring was tedious and probably the most time consuming part of the project. I can't tell you how many hours I spent with diagrams from both cars splicing the circuits together that I wanted to work. Basically everything forward of the firewall is 03 and aft is 93 with the exception of the headlight and airbag harness' which I joined into the Cobra wiring to make one harness. Everything should work right down to the a/c and cruise control.
It's getting late now so time for bed. If there are any specific pics anyone wants just let me know and I will get some for you.

Johnny nice looking project. Can you get any close ups of how you mounted your heat exchanger and intercooler pump??? Also on the pic of the longtubes it looks like one tube is dented pretty good, is that to clear the steering shaft????? I dented my Macs today on my project and ground the hell out of my Flaming River steering shaft, it clears but just barely, almost to the point I am gonna take header to a Fab shop and have them custom bend and replace the dented in piece of the header. That part of the swap has really kicked my ass because I am so anal. Nice Pics!

Thanks for the compliments. I will try to get the some pics of the heat exchanger and pump as soon as I can. I used the brackets that came with it and bent them the way I needed them. Then I drilled through the bumper and bolted it in place. I will probably have to trim the bumper cover a bit to make it fit right but thats no big deal.

On the longtubes, I bought them used on ebay and the dent was already there. I guess the guy that originally owned them had clearance problems. I am going to try to mount the steering shaft next week sometime so I hope it fits like it is. I have a MM shaft though. I have realized not everything is going to work the way I hoped it would, so as long as it works the way its supposed to and looks descent or is at least hidden from plain view, I am ok with it. It will never be a show car but I just want to go fast.

I will try to get those pics for you in a day or two.

Sounds good on the pics, I deleted my inner bumper so not sure what I am gonna do but would like to get some pics of the Pump and routing of the hoses when you get time. I still think even with the Max shaft you are gonna have some issues, I have the flaming river majorly modified and it barely works , i think you may have some hours coming at ya to get it right. Good Luck!!!!! Also whatcha doing for fuel system?

Yeah, I hear you on the shaft. I just been taking it as it comes and taking my time until I am satisfied with it. I hope the shaft isn't too much trouble.

As for the fuel system, I just bit the bullet and got a whole setup from Glenn's performance. Its a dual 255lph external walbro setup with dual -6an feed lines. I also got the Fore rails so I could keep the FRPS as James suggested. It was not too bad price wise, all the hoses, fittings, a 100 micron filter, a1000 regulator, both pumps and my favorite is the tank. They call it a sleeper tank, the feed line comes out the front of the tank on the passenger side. Supposedly you can run it with as little as 1/2 gallon of fuel without starving the pumps, I will never let it get that low but I like the piece of mind. I knew no matter what I was going to run dual pumps, who am I to argue with Ford Engineers. They put two pumps on it, so thats the way I wanted to keep it.

Pumps

Tank pickup and -10an feed to filter from underneath

pickup and filter from passenger wheel well

pumps y-block and filter from drivers wheel well

Looks like you are getting there Jonny. Keep up the good work!!! I cant remember and I am at work so I cnat look at it, but I think that dent in your headers is the one they put in them at the factory for the 03 steering shaft. It runs in a completely different place than the fox shaft, which sucks, cuz its another dent in the headers plus you still have to beat the shit out of them or move a tube to get the fox one past....... I was not a fan of having to do that. Looks like shit..... I think I am going to move the tube before weather breaks again......

Hang in there man, it's worth it in the end!!!

James
Looks good man! Keep plugging at it, you won't be dissapointed. What k-member are you using?
Thanks guys. I thought that dent might be there for the cobra shaft. I was hoping I would not have to beat them up too bad. Now you have me about to go out there and test fit it. Ha..

As for the k-member, its a PA racing. I went with them because they were the only company I could find that has tubular control arms that allow you to keep the coil springs. I didn't want coil overs so it worked out allright. It took some leverage to get the control arms to line up right but other than that it went in pretty easily. You can also use the factory a-arms with this k.

It sucks though, because I have to go out of town all weekend and thats really the only time I can work on it. The worst part about doing this in the driveway is I have to walk past it every day and not work on it. I'm so close I can smell it, damn it I want to go fast again! Hopefully I can get it all done before Easter, that would be funny, I can resurrect my mustang on Easter.

Thanks again for the support, it is appreciated.

Lookin real good so far!!
Took my header to get that back primary redone today, sucky part of the conversion right there.

It's not the only one out there..... Mine is an AJE and I got the spring perches with it..... I didnt want to spend the cash for tubular control arms in the middle of building a whole car... I can always upgrade later..... I couldnt justify the cash outlay for the tiny weight difference.... I will just put a bigger nitrous jet in LOL..... It is always cheaper to lose weight than add horsepower..... Thats why I built a notch!

James
Nice project.Keep up the good work and posting pics....

I didn't realize AJE made the A-arms with the cups. Oh well.

Trey, here are some pics of the h/e and pump. I realized after looking at these I need to do something else with the hose from the engine to the pump, it looks kinked in the pics. I still need to sand and paint the brackets too. I just modified the brackets to work the way I wanted and went from there. I mounted everything then went to the auto parts store and bought a few hoses that looked like they would work and returned the ones that didn't.
After what you all said about the steerin shaft I had to test fit it yesterday. That turned into installing the shaft, which actually fit without any extra banging on the headers, the dipstick, which I forgot to put on before I put the engine in and was probably one of the most difficult things I have done so far, and I put the fenders back on and finished the front suspension and brakes. I need to trim the inside of the bumper cover just a bit so it clears the h/e, but it looks better than I hoped. More pics will be up this weekend since my trip got canceled and I can work on the car all weekend:rock:

Big props on the pics, great job!!! U R a lucky man on the headers if I wouldnt have had to deal with that it would have saved me alot of time. Gonna go mount my HE Pump tomorrow off your pics and try and get the heat exchanger mounted as well. Once again great pics, keep them coming and rolling on your project!!!
No problem. I didn't really want to mount it upside down like that but it fit best that way. I have it bolted tight so I don't think it'll go anywhere. If it for some strange reason it slid out of the bracket it would just land in the splash guard anyway so I figured it would be alright. No, kidding on the headers, I think I have about a sixteenth of an inch of clearance. Probably because the header was already beat up though.

Almost there.

I had to trim the inside of the bumper cover and the metal support bracket but it came out pretty nice.

Good view of the cobra grill insert to allow more air flow to the radiator.

I still need to finish mounting the overflow and intercooler tank.

Its getting there, maybe about one more week.

Well, the cluster works. On the left is autometer boost and fuel pressure gauges.

Nice!!!!! I like the way the HE looks from the front!!!
Thanks Trey. I wanted to move it up more but after fighting the condenser for a while there just isn't any more room. So, I will just have to live with it like it is. I am going to put back the plastic flap that hangs under the radiator support, it hangs lower than the h/e so if I hear it scraping I know I need to be careful.

Had to order a pinion flange today, the one thing I forgot. But I did get the x-pipe mounted and it only needs to be tweaked a bit to make it around the tranny mount. Had I not moved the mounts back it would have been more of a problem. Nothing a muffler shop can't fix though.

The fuel system is complete with the exception of hanging the lines up under the car. I'm starting to get excited, when I checked the cluster the other day I wanted to start it so bad. I can't wait! So close!
