Hey guys just a few queestions y'all. I currently own a 2000 Mustang GT and have owned it for 5-6 years now well taken care of, oil changes on time, and frequent maintenance. Bought it with 30K miles and now I'm up to 104K miles. Most highway millage since I travel a lot due to military. Anyways, I started to have a what seems to be valve cover leak and smoke coming out the hood from what seemed to be oil dripping on to the headers. Well I tightened the last few bolts on the valve cover and the smoke stopped but im stil leaking. I just bought the groumats for the bolts to see if that will stop it. Any other suggestions?

Also, I was told my pinnion seal is out because of oil drips it leaves on concrete any suggestions on that?

Valve cover gaskets are easy and cheap enough to change. I don't think the rubber grommets on the valve cover help with sealing at all. But I could be wrong on that one. Change the valve cover gasket, that should solve that leak.

As far as the pinion seal goes i have never had to do any rear end work on my car.

I think it's a more common problem with Windsor cars. I've noticed years ago that I have oil puddle in the block valley plus an oil puddle in one of the bolt holes(passenger side), which leads me to the valve cover gasket. It might be because the gasket was messed up when my cams were changed.

Where is there oil leaking at the rear? If you look at the "pumpkin" or center section of the rear axle, it could be a pinion seal or differential cover leak. You would have to find which side, front or back, it was leaking. I recently had to change my diff cover gasket, RTV, which would leak at the pumpkin, and axle seals, which would drip around or on the wheels.

Help!!

On the valve cover leak pretty much leaks all my oil out. It's on the drives side and when I turn the wheels I can see the trail of oil it leaks. I been told the rear end leak is the pinion seel which we recently changed but didn't make the piñon nut and need help seeing how much to tighten. Also when I get on it and let go of the gas, it sounds like something is rubbing but only when it decelerates. Any help would be nice.
