I am in the middle of the headswap, and i just took off my chains, but i noticed 1 chain has 2 marks, and the other chain only has 1 mark? my haynes manual says to look for the bright link, but i see no bright link. is this normal?

yeah, it happens sometimes.....take the one link you found and let the chain hang from that link, the link at the bottom of the loop should be it's mate. Look for a slight discoloration on that link compared to the two surrounding it....it might be very slight.

If you don't see any color difference don't worry....the two colored links are 180* from eachother....let the chain hang from the one link (like above) and grab the link that is at the very bottom of the loop that will form. That will be the appropriate timing link for that link you have in your top hand....and you can do that for any of the links on the chain.
