Supercharger Vs Turbo?

I have a 99 cobra with the t45 that I just recently built about 2 months ago and it blew up again!!! I have owned 3 mustangs so far and my greatest problem with any of them are the transmission and clutch going out. I owned a 96 Gt completely stock and in a year I've replaced 3 t45 transmissions and 4 clutches. I've now had the 99 cobra for exactly a year now and I so far destroyed the t45 that came with the car, the tr3650 I replaced it with, and the t45 me and my grandpa rebuilt about 2 months ago. I have never gotten more than 3 months on a single t45 or tr3650 that i've ever put into any of my cars. I want opinions on what transmission I should buy? 5 speed vs 6 speed? Prices?

P.S I'm saving for a vortech v2 supercharger kit that should bring the car to 464hp & 406ft/lbs tq. Also I need opinions on a good clutch that won't burn up when shifting at 130+mph for minutes at a time?

if you are road racing the car then I would either go tko600 or t56 and have promotion build it either way, I live 20 min from them and their transmissions kick ass, they cryoed the t56 in my buddy E's car and it runs like a champ now

I appreciate the replys, ima give them a call and get some prices. I'm looking to spend no more than about $2500-$3000 for a tranny, clutch, flywheel, and short throw. I'm only making about $1850 a month and I'm back down to $2200 after paying for $800 tires and $400 in tickets. I had plans to buy a vortech blower before the end of racing season in november but it looks like ima' have to wait till around february!!! I was even gonna buy a remington 700 .300 mag next week, there goes my plans.... oh well lol

thats insane man ive had 4 stangs and driven them very hard and only grenaded one t-5, and in my current cobra my t45 is holding up to over 500 crank hp and tq, i dunno who is rebuilding those transmissions but thats crazy man, well promotion rates there hd t-45 to something like 650 hp and its 1799 if i rem correctly, i called them a while back incase mine decides to blow up.

Yeah... My car only has factory power and to destroy so many trannys is unreal.... I've always used luk clutches and they slip so I really cant blame the clutch. Maybe its true about royal purple. I've used it in every transmission i've ever blown up. My buddy swears up and down that royal purples trash and maybe he's right, maybe regular atf is better, who knows??? Anyways.... this is my list of soon to buys and i want opinions. I called promotion and there t45 is $2800 and thats more than i want to spend on a t45.

1) G-force t45 gear kit for $1200 Gear Ratios are (2.94, 1.94, 1.34, 1.00, 0.59 OD)

just what are u doing weve had a rebuilt stock t45 behind a near 400 hp car for awile then put behind the new motor 425 wheels for a short period before the auto went in and that trans is in my shop waiting to go into my car now with no problems so far

I have a Lentech automatic that will handle ALL your power you have and then some (1000 HP rated).

id go with t56 magnum. i love mine but in my opinion stay away from d&d they wouldnt warranty a 26 spline input shaft but thats my 2 cents

I have a 99 cobra with that Vortech supercharger and a 3:73 gear, Centerforce clutch, suspension upgraded by Kenny Brown. It hauls! It also has a t45 that I am having difficulty with (I posted about this a little while ago). Anyway, I contacted Kenny Brown for a Trans recommendation. He recommended a t56 6 speed from D&D, this is a link to them http://www.ddperformance.com/shop/index.php?cPath=108_127 Prices do vary from place to place so do some reasearch. Unless someone out there can tell me how to fix my tranny, I will probably turn my t45 into a boat anchor, maybe it can handle that job??? I think the t45 was not rated for torque beyond about 325 ft. lbs. My car is about 407 ft. lbs at the crank. I,ve read alot of negative posts about the t45. Good luck and BTW, if you get that supercharger, watchout when you cross 4500 RPM, you think there's a RATO strapped to your 'stang!

I saw a thread once were someone with a 03 cobra put a built 4r70w in because they were tired of replacing their t56. I read somewhere where a 4r70w can take 1000 hp if prepared properly. If you could find a 4r75w from a mach 1 or merc murader they're supposed to be bulletproof also.

something is off , i had a 3650 om my 01 cobra ,aluminator motor with a ported eaton making 500 to the wheels, took the car to the track several times and the only 2 things i broke ware the diff cover and an axle on my IRS now i have a t-56 with a 26 spline and a build solid, and i still have the 3650 in my back yard, got to say that my 60 foot went from 2.2-2.0 to a 1.61 with the solid. still need more time to tweak the suspension.

manual trannies are time bombs not matter how "badass" it is. They just don't hold the power like an auto. I am not saying go auto(be a good idea) but if your set on a manual you are going to be spending a lot of money for the tranny and hope it doesn't break.

I'd so a Promotion t45

or auto

t3650 are weak

I beat the crap outta my t-45's with no problems. Worst i've done so far was a broken 2nd gear fork, and I blame that on myself for shifting so hard with the stock shifter.

You guys aren't making enough power YET to get into trouble with the trannys! Just wait until the next upgrade gets you there...you'll be looking for an auto soon!
