At around 4k+ RPM my car will have a rattling sound coming from the engine. It's hard to describe. It's not really that loud. Say your driving along a dirt path and your kicking sand/rocks up against the underside of your car. It sounds like that. I was talking to my friend and he said something about detonation and that I was running too low of an octane. I run 87 because that's all you need for a stock 01 GT. Although my car isn't REALLY stock because it has offroad H + delta 40's. Do I need to upgrade to 89 octane because of this? Is it a problem with my engine? Maybe a part is loose so that would cause the rattling sound?

Appreciate any advice,

Mark

I was under the impression that 89 was recomended for the 01's or was that the 02's when the comp ratio was raised. But anyway, try using 89 if the sound is still there take it to get looked at.
