With all the posts of broken input shafts and broken 1/2 shafts, has anyone experimented with an automatic for the street? I know Pete has had great success... close to 700rwhp and stock 1/2 shafts with his IRS. For some I realize this takes away some of the fun factor, but what's the trade off?

Expense, Auto's are pricey, especially when you add electronic OD., however what are the costs of retro fitting your T-56 or swapping it for a Viper one, then doing the clutch disk mods, pilot bearing mods...etc.. and lets not forget about the IRS.

With more folks adding KB's and the rumor's of a big Eaton 166 around the corner... I fear not even the Viper T-56 rated @ 550bhp will hold the power.

Thoughts....

Hey Pete how do you like the automatic??? Still doing conversions?

I must admit, I do like the stick for street, but the auto is the way to go, You still have to ease it out of the whole then let it rip.
When in dought auto it out , :)
When I compete I will run the auto. nitro

Pete,
Was the conversion a big hassle? Did you need a different drive shaft? What about the length of the unit? Did you have to relocate the cross member?
