Have any of you guys noticed any blue smoke upon start-up? My car is in the dealer right now getting a new left head and valve stem seals in the right. I called SVT and asked if they had any problems with the smoking and they told it was normal and all the cobras from 96 on do this  , this is my second 03 cobra and my first on didn't smoke and I have a couple friends who have 03's and they dont smoke ( one has 40,000 miles and has the piss ran out of it and it doesn't smoke.....I dont think its normal and hope they fix it beacause I love this car. I was just curious if any of you guys had this problem and if you got it fixed... Thanks!!

It is normal for some reason. Mine dosen't do it but a buddies does. It's nothing to be worried about but I would think it would be kinda annoying. SVT has told him along with the dealership that it is common. :smash

my cars done it once. im guessing maybe the oil that goes up the intake track from the pcv maybe? does addingmore boost create more crankcase pressure and possible a little more oil go into the intake? im tempted to get some mini air filters for the valve covers and ditch that setup, but the last debate i saw on that there wasnt a clear answer on if its safe or not. dont know why it wouldnt be, by why mess with it right ? :smoker

Mine started doing it stock. Even after the drivers side head was replaced for the tick, it still smokes occasionally. I also burn about a quart of oil between oil changes. SVT and the dealer says its normal.

My '99 smokes on start up occasionally and also runs rough but clears up quickly after it has been parked for an extended amount of time. It now has over 80k on it and is running well. I haven't noticed either symptom with my '03 with 15k on the clock.

The problem with disconnecting the intake line and PCV loop (and putting on a breather and filter) is that the computer is programmed to compensate for the air metered through the MAF that then goes through the loop. If you disconnect it, your A/F will be off, unless you retune the computer or chip.

Not that I've ever noticed. My friend said he noticed a small puff, but he was parked right behind me at night with his headlights on, in a Vette no less. So the lights are right at the pipes.

Since then, I've had people watch it a few times, and nothing.
Mine burns no oil at all. Atfter 3000 miles on this oil fill, it's still exactly between the 5 and the 7 on the part number cast into the dipstick.

Uhh, speaking of which, why did Ford use a cable for a dipstick? I hate that stupid thing. Why did they change from something that's worked for what, 100 years now?

A quart between oil changes is not normal to me.. maybe if I had over 100,000 miles, that is still considered ok. You did not switch to syn oil too early did you, before 5000 miles? Rings not seating in properly will cause it to consume oil more than normal. Mine does not burn any oil at all. When you change oil do not put more than 6 quarts and this will put it right in the middle of the low/high marks on the dipsick, this is where it is supposed to be. The stick is wrong. Maybe you overfill it and it is burning it off??

Put a inline water separator inbetween the PCV and intake vacuum sorce, problem solved.

Mine used to have an occasional puff of blue smoke, but have not seen it since I installed the oil trap described above. I have to drain out the oil every so often from the trap. When I removed my Eaton and installed the KB there was oil all over the intercooler under the supercharger. This all came from the PCV line and is the blue smoke problem.

I agree with the source of the blue smoke problem. The separator is no doubt a ghreat solution, but, as an easy attempt to lessen the problem change the PCV valve. My car was smoking bad and using extra oil. I changed the PCV valve and the problem basically disappeared. Now I change the PVC valve every 5000 miles or so since they are cheap. It is rumored that boost gets to the PVC valve somehow.

If the rings did not seat properly? Is there any remedy besides a rebuild?

The Lightnings have been using the water separators for a long time now. I dont think adding a new, same style PCV will not solve the problem, but these links show some different style PCV or separator.

Depends, if it's beacuse you've used synthetics early on, switching to dino oil for 20K miles would help. If it's never seen synthetic, then no. 4V guys that had smoke problems due to MAC longtubes have gotten progressively better leakdown results after going back to regular oil.

Mine hasn't seen synthetics yet. I'll wait til probably my 4th oil change at 11,000 miles.
