It's a very noticeable squeaking noise coming from the engine on cold start ups. It goes away after about 5 minutes, but I know it's not normal. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks...

I'd have to go with the idlers, one of them might be pretty beat-try what 2KBill said or also grab hold of each off them and feel how much slop is in them. They should be fairly tight. You could also remove the belt and spin them by hand, they should turn smoothly. Also, I've heard belts do that too. What belt(s) are on the car? Dayco PolyCogs seem to be the worst at making noise.

Let us know what you find and welcome to the forums:beerchug: ,

Mine did that. It was the belt. When you start it in the morning, spray a little water on the belt. The noise should go away for about 6-8 seconds and then return. If that happens it is your belt. I replaced my belt and problem solved. The belts sometimes glaze and start to squeek until it gets warm.
If the noise does not go away, then it is one of your idlers. Take the belt off and spin each one to find the bad bearing.
Good Luck-

Mine squeaks a little when cold. If it gets worse, I'll try the water test. Good suggestion. :beerchug:

Mine was doing it recently and it got progressively worse. It would go away once the engine warmed up.

Changed the belt...nope.
Changed the idlers...nope.
It was the alternator bearing gone bad.

Update: The squeaking lasted for two days in a row, then stopped out of nowhere. I don't know what to think??
When you get an answer to it pass it on to me please. Mine does the same thing -at times-. Had both belts replaced and then this late fall it started again.........dealership said it was the belt last time............Erich
