problems filling fuel tank

I am having problems getting my fuel tank to take fuel at a decent rate. Currently it takes forever to put in gas. The gas backs up quickly.

I am using an 03 cobra tank. No EVAP. I have both blue pieces in place. One is open to vent. I am using the 99+ filler neck.

I have had the tank out several times changing vents around and etc. I am at the point of thinking it may not be a vent problem. I noticed there is a spring loaded check valve in the end of the filler neck. I am assuming this is for safety in case of a roll over. I wonder if removing it would help.

Anyone experience this problem or have any thoughts?

The 94-95 filler neck is too large for the 03-04 tanks.

i had this problem when going to a 89 fox tank on my 98 gt.for me it was the tank had an extra hose coming to the top of the filler neck wich i left pluged up..i hooked it back up an it works just fine now..while your pumping gas in the tank it needs to expell air/gas vapors at the same time..if the vapors and the gas are all trying to do their thing in the same filler neck it causes a back up wich makes your gas pump nozzle click every 2 seconds.check to make sure everything is hooked up to where it needs to be.

I thought I had everything hooked up. I will look again. Thanks for the info.

Make sure you didn't break the plastic piece on the filler neck
on the end where it goes into the tan.
If you did, gas will spit back at you when you fill it.

explain break? what piece you talking about?

He's talking about the plunger piece that has the spring on the tip of the tube that's in the tank. If it's out of alignment, or broken to where the flow of gas doesn't push it in far enough, then the gas will back up out of the tube.

I was thinking of that. What if I take it out or cut the spring pressure down. See any problems doing this?
