I'm venting my valve covers to my exhaust after using breathers for about a year, I got sick of wiping oil off of the valve covers.

yes i did, haven't got around to checking the measurements yet. been busy with a bunch of other junk. i'll check tomorrow for you.

 

Must not have been a quality unit.

 

At the time guys were using separators for compressed air systems that you can buy at Home Depot, that one didn't work, so I bought a commercial oil coelesing filter and it worked ok.

If you vent the valve covers to the exhaust you will never have to drain a separator or catch can EVER.

The hot exhaust moving through the pipes cause a negative pressure or it creates suction if you hook a pipe into the exhaust and then to the breathers.

It's an old hot rod trick. I am going to delete my EGR and run the breathers to the EGR tube.

 

I wouldn't advice hooking a oil Sep. up to your exhaust system. Any that doesn't burn of which will be a fair bit, it will turn rock hard and build up somewhere.....

 

The egr is designed to send air back into the intake. I would think that the exhaust pressure would be higher than the crankcase pressure. It may have worked on older hot rods but new engines have tighter tolerances and less blow by so there should be minimal pressure.

If you delete the EGR then how is exhaust going to flow into the intake? Doesn't manifold vacuum suck exhaust gases into the intake? YES, without manifold vacuum then you wouldn't get exhaust gases into the intake throught the EGR. Exhaust gas velocity creates vacuum thus running the breather to the exhaust will create crankcase vacuum, therefore sucking out crankcase blowby into the exhaust not the otherway around.

It has nothing to do with engine build tolerances.LOL...

You can use seperators if you like, I found a better way IMO

 

Your better off letting it drain back thru your PVC system via a one way valve, good luck with the build up.

 

next question guys- do you run 2 separators, one for each valve cover, or do you T them into one line?

 

It wouldnt matter but for separate separator you gotta spend twice the money, its prolly easies to just T into one.

 

Get a morroso catchcan setup.. They seem to work very very well..

 

Just cuz It done doesnt mean its right, have you tested this. Your "Point" is correct if it works how you says but the fluid dynamics of an exhaust system leads me to believe it wont work as you say.

It has been done before, so yes it works.

Maybe it won't work utilizing the EGR tube, but I'll give it a shot and let everyone know? My gut tells me if it will work in a header collector then it will work utilizing the EGR tube.

turbocooler, sorry to highjack your thread when you were asking about oil separators. I've been down the separator road before, with no success of eliminating oil in the intake. IMO, the only way to eliminate oil in the intake is to use breathers, a catchcan, or plumbing the covers to the exhaust.

 

i would think that the exhaust pulsing out the header tubes would create a vaccuum through the egr tube. So what you said would prob work. Tee both valve covers into one line, cut the egr tube down somewhere and slip the tube over it. Sounds like it would work without having to run a tube all the way down to the rear o2 ports. Pretty sure that's how all the fox body guys do it (run it to exhaust)
